Royal College of Art X Kyoto Design Lab Summer School 2016

29Aug-02Sep  2016

Kyoto Design Lab, Kyoto Institute of Technology

Kyoto, Japan

duration: 5 days

I was invited by ASTA Cultural Creative Studio to run a workshop at Bopilaio Historical Block in Taipei about the modification of second-hand clothes. Sustainability in fashion is an important and popular topic.

At the beginning of the workshop I showed examples of contemporary designers who are focused on recycling pre-existing garments. I then demonstrated several ways to cut and reshape t-shirts. Participants had 40 minutes to transform their t-shirts and had access to embellishments such as beads, fabric, old buttons and crystals. At the end of the workshop, participants showed their work and shared their thoughts.
